If you’ve ever wondered what really goes into creating custom draperies, shades, and soft furnishings, you’re in the right place. At Window Works Studio, we believe the journey should be just as enjoyable as the destination.

Our custom window treatment process is designed to be stress-free, collaborative, and — dare we say — fun. From the first spark of inspiration to the final installation, we take care of the details so you can enjoy the transformation. Here’s what makes working with us a little different (and a lot more special).

It All Starts With You

Unlike big-box options, custom window treatment design begins with a conversation, not a catalog. We want to know how you live in your space, what inspires you, and what frustrates you about your current window coverings.

Are you looking for something elegant for a High Point dining room? A cozy, layered look for a family room in Winston-Salem? Your answers guide every decision we make.

Initial Conversation and In-Home Consultation

We start with a phone conversation about your goals, style preferences, and functional needs. This initial consultation helps us understand your vision before we come to you for an in-home visit. This might include questions like: Do you need privacy and light control? Are you interested in motorized window treatments for convenience? Or is your priority creating a wow factor with stunning custom drapery fabrics?

Precision matters when it comes to custom window treatments. Our detailed measurements account for every architectural detail, ensuring your treatments fit perfectly and operate flawlessly.

Meeting in your home allows you to see fabric samples in the actual rooms where they’ll be used—ensuring colors and textures work perfectly with your existing décor. During this visit, we also take detailed measurements of your windows and assess any architectural quirks to guarantee a flawless fit. This precision measuring ensures we’re designing with purpose, not just pretty pictures, and it’s what separates truly custom window treatments from “close enough” alternatives.

Fabric and Hardware Selection

This is where the fun begins! After returning to our design studio, we create 2-3 custom design options and carefully select the fabrics, trims, and hardware that will seamlessly blend your personal style with your functional needs. Rest assured that we have years of experience and a large library of resources for all parts of the design process.

Our Jamestown design studio showcases an extensive library of premium fabrics, trims, and hardware from top manufacturers, ensuring we can create the perfect custom solution for any style.

We’ll curate options from our extensive collection of designer fabrics, trims, and hardware—including exclusive Hunter Douglas window treatments. During this stage, we also talk about lining choices, how to achieve the perfect drape, and ways to incorporate current interior design trends without sacrificing timeless appeal.

Design Review

Depending on the complexity of your project, we’ll meet with you either in our studio or in your home to review our design recommendations. We’ll present sketches or photographs of the proposed designs, along with fabric, trim, and hardware samples. This collaborative review ensures every detail aligns with your vision before we move into fabrication.
